Q:  What does the term "Green Building" describe?

A:   The term 'Green Building" or "Sustainable Building" is used to describe the process of designing buildings and their features to use products and methods that save energy, reduce green house and volatile chemical gases and create healthier more productive  work and living spaces. One way to "green" a building would be to use products such as carpet made from recycled plastic bottles and paints that off gas less chemicals both of these solutions can improve indoor air quality and reduce the waste stream. Another method might be to "deconstruct" an old structure by recycling the glass, steel and concrete into other products rather than demolishing it and using up valuable landfill space with the debris.    

Building "green" also means building better longer wearing buildings using more durable building methods that reduce repair cost, and the amount of energy, resources and waste disposal required over the life of the structure.  Studies show that over the long run "green" buildings have lower operating costs.

Q:  Is the low bid always the best? 

A:   Not always. On projects that do not have very detailed plans and specifications the bids may vary widely from lowest to highest and each bidder might have different items included and or excluded making an apples to apples comparison based purely upon price difficult.Even though the low bid solution meets the minimum requirements, slightly more expensive products or more careful construction methods might offer savings to the Client over the long run in terms of reduced maintenance and replacement costs. It is often said that "low bid contractors put men on the moon", so the bidding process can’t be all that bad. But, the Client should make an effort to understand exactly what they are buying and how it compares to other options prior to awarding contracts based on price alone. Low price does not always equate to good value.

Q:  What are some of the benefits of remodeling my basement?

A:   Custom Built-in Cabinets can provide an efficient storage solution for many areas of your home, office, or work station and can offer more flexibility and design options than factory made units.  We routinely design and build a variety custom cabinet units for entertainment centers, book shelves, craft areas and industrial work stations.   Custom Built-in cabinets, unlike factory made units, offer the flexibility of being stained or painted to match your existing cabinets, trim or furniture.

Custom Built-in Cabinets are not always the only answer for your storage needs. In kitchens and baths. For instance, it may be more effective to use factory cabinets that come in a wide range of styles and sizes that can be mixed or matched to achieve the desired results.  Occasionally we create built in storage by combining factory cabinets or factory components with custom drawer units, custom cabinets or custom counter tops to meet a clients needs.
